The Wadebridge Bowling Club outdoor season ended on Saturday, with Closing Day, a faith tea and the presentation of trophies and awards.

The afternoon started with a spider, raising more money for the Alzheimer’s Society, President Wendy’s chosen charity. It continued with five triples matches, over 15 ends. We didn’t have the often-used ‘move on after five ends’, but instead had a satisfying match against a single set of opponents. Two of the matches ended in draws.
The awards presentation started with the Ladies, where it seemed a requirement to be called Barbara, as Barbaras Bell and Swaby swept the board. By contrast, in the Men’s competitions, you had to be called Tinker, as George and Harry of that ilk took all the singles trophies, except the Hawke Cup won by Mark Tapley. Here is the full list of winners and runners-up.
The ‘Member of the Year’ award went to Barbara Bell, to great applause.

Actually, the season didn’t quite end on Saturday. The following day, Richard Jones and Harry Tinker competed in the Cornwall finals of the Benevolent Pairs at St Stevens, losing 22-15 in the semi-final. A commendable achievement.
Even more commendable, we should note finally that George Tinker (our Fixtures Secretary) is the County Secretaries champion. Well done, George!
