The annual Men v Ladies match has long been a fixture in the Wadebridge Bowling Club calendar. Of late, the reduced number of ladies in the club has meant that a number of men have to volunteer to play in the Ladies team, to make a match of it.
It is fair to say that some men take that obligation VERY seriously, and some – er – don’t.
The match itself, consisting of triples on two rinks and fours on the other two, turned out to be very close. Kevin Smith’s Ladies triple (once it had been established that ‘K. Jones’ referred to Kirsty and not Kevin) eked out a 16-13 win over Paul Evans. Alison Tapley’s triple had a 13-12 win against Roger Priestley, despite conceding 3 on the last end. George Tinker’s four gave the Men a 17-4 win over Pat Archer. The remaining rink decided the match. Aided by 7 on the penultimate end, Trevor Little’s four won 24-10 for the Ladies. The final result: Ladies 57 - Men 52.
The game was followed by a traditional pasty supper, with the bar also open.
