The posters were up, the social media posted, and friends informed. Numerous club members arrived to mow the green, get out the bowls equipment, line up the teas and coffees, and set out the pens and membership forms on the ‘reception desk’. The sun was in position and the clouds had been banished.

It was Bowls England awards time again on Saturday (21st Feb) and Wadebridge was shortlisted for another award, after a success as Club of the Year last year. This time it was the Junior Development Program of the Year – a new award.
Seven made the trip to the Athena event centre in Leicester to see how we got on, and to support two other Cornish (indeed Group 2) nominees. Roy Lane of Kensey Vale was up for the Unsung Hero, whilst Bodmin were looking to emulate Wadebridge with Club of the Year.

At the start of Closing Day, in memory of our late President, Eddie Jones, Vice-President Alyson Tapley led the club in a half-minute silence, followed by a half-minute applause.

It was Finals Weekend 5th - 7th September. Not quite Leamington, but a great weekend, with good bowls, good food, good drink, good camaraderie and good weather* (so long as your interpretation of 'good weather' includes both sunshine and rain).
