Club nights for 2025 are always on a Tuesday, except for 27th May, when it will be on Friday 30th May instead.
Club nights provide a regular opportunity for friendly but competitive matches between members who might not otherwise get to meet and play each other.
Please arrive by 17:15 (April and September) or 17:45 (May to August) so that teams can be sorted out for a prompt start at 17:30 or 18:00
The primary focus of Club Nights is the ‘Umbrella’ – an ongoing weekly competition which runs on Club Nights throughout the season. Any club member can enter. Teams are drawn on the night from the players who come.
The basic format is two sessions of 10 ends, though this may be varied depending on circumstances (for example, only 8 ends at the beginning and end of the season as daylight ends earlier). The overall winners are the individuals with the best shot difference over a minimum of 9 evenings across the season, irrespective of who they were playing with. Prizes are awarded to the top 3 bowlers.
At the same time, new members can receive coaching from our qualified coaches for a few weeks, and then join in the Umbrella, thus gaining match practice whilst building up their skills and knowledge of the game.
As is the case for any scheduled event or competition on the green, whether regular or one-off, the Club Night Umbrella (and any coaching) takes priority over any other use of the green. Members who turn up on club nights but do not enter the Umbrella may only play if there are rinks unallocated after the Umbrella and coaching sessions are underway. Players using a rink that is needed will be asked to vacate it.
Members should come in club shirts and greys, and the 'old-style' shirts are perfectly acceptable. New members have a few weeks leeway to obtain the kit.
Any roll-ups or competition matches taking place earlier in the day must start early enough to be finished before Club Night begins.
