The Men’s B Team took a good win 5-0 at Bude on Friday night, in the match that was rained off a couple of weeks ago.

It being Royal Cornwall Show time, the team gathered early at the club, to try and avoid the traffic heading home east along the A39 – a tactic that proved so stunningly successful that we arrived 40 minutes early. We met no traffic in Wadebridge, and only a bit in Camelford. One of us went round the town, the other went through, and both arrived in Bude at the same time.

We were fearing rain again, but it held off. The wind blowing off the sea, though… That was cold.

On rink 2, the first eight ends were won by a single shot, the scores level at 4 each. Then Wadebridge broke the sequence with a 3, and continued into a lead of 12-4. Bude’s recovery over the last three ends wasn’t enough and Wadebridge won 14-10.

On rink 3, Wadebridge went 5-0 down after the first two ends, then hit back with a 3 and a 5. After eleven ends it was 12-12, then Bude moved ahead again, before Wadebridge scored two 4s, which was enough to hold on for a 22-18 win.

On rink 4, the two teams traded blows and at eleven ends Bude led 8-7. Then Wadebridge scored a 4 to take the lead and held on to it to win 15-11.  The overall  score was 51-39.

So all three rinks won by the same margin – 4 shots. I wonder what odds you could have got.
