Wadebridge B Team secured the Group 2 League North title for the second year in a row, with a 4-1 win over Camelford on Monday evening.
They went into the game needing just half a point for the title. Second placed Kensey Vale were 10 points behind with two games to play, needing two 5-0 wins and Wadebridge to lose 5-0, after which they would win on aggregate. Wadebridge were determined not to let the outcome be decided by Kensey Vale dropping points.
Kevin Smith’s rink (with Terry Darby, Alan Carruthers and Dave Bramman) dropped behind early on and never managed to recover, losing 14-18. Graham Browning’s rink (with Peter Morrish, Peter Richards and John Pearce) fought a close match to a last end victory 16-13. It all depended on the third rink…
Please excuse the feeble attempt to raise the tension, but actually there was never any doubt. Mark Tapley (with Keith Dodd, Andy Philips and Trevor Little) had gone into an early lead and never looked like losing it, cruising to a 21-6 win. The overall match score was 51 shots to 37.
Congratulations to a side that was consistently strong throughout the season, and to team captain Graham Browning. Now for the play-off against the East league winners.
