Neck and neck in the Ladies Rippon league match and a hotshot in Men’s B Team.
Penny Cartwright, Lorraine Davies, Barbara Swaby and Pat Archer (skip) played at Dunheved Bowling Club in the sunshine of Monday afternoon.
It was a close and well matched game, head to head all the way through, the lead changing hands several times. Wadebridge held four on the 8th end and were thinking that they could pull away, when the Dunheved skip curled her last wood in to claim shot. That’s bowls for you!
The game continued to be close, all square after the 15th end, when the home team edged the last three ends winning by four shots, 15-11.
Despite that, it was a very good team effort, and well played Penny and Lorraine as the Rippon league was a new experience for both of them.

In the evening, at home, the Men’s B Team faced Bude, looking for a substantial win to cement their place at the head of the league.
On rink 1, Graham Browning’s four raced to a 13-1 lead after seven ends, before conceding a 2, 5 and 4 to leave them only two shots ahead. But they allowed their opponents only two more shots whilst moving on to a strong 26-14 win. By contrast, rink 2, skipped by Mark Tapley battled to 7-7 after seven ends, but then rocketed away with a ‘Hotshot’ 8 on end 11, to win 34-11. Rink 3 (Kevin Smith) started with a bang – 6 shots on the first end. Then the match turned into an attritional battle, neither side allowing the other to score highly, trading 1s and the occasional 2 for the next 17 ends to a final score of 16-9 to Wadebridge.
A 5-0 win (76-34) was just what the doctor ordered, enhanced by the news coming through late in the evening that nearest challengers Stratton had lost 0-5 to Dunheved, allowing Dunheved to leapfrog into second spot, 11 points behind Wadebridge.
Go Bridgers!!
And immense congratulations to Tom Prout, Andy Phillips, Trevor Little and Mark Tapley on the Hotshot.
