Who won the club competitions this year? Read on to find out.
For the second year in a row, Wadebridge Bowling Club held its Presentation Dinner at The Swan Hotel. The club filled the upstairs room, enjoying pre-dinner drinks and a three-course meal (with some people enjoying pre-pre-dinner drinks at the clubhouse first). President David Atfield had prepared a quiz to keep us entertained, part one being 20 picture clues to Cornwall locations to complete during dinner.
After dinner, David gave a short speech, congratulating the members of the club for all the effort and imagination they had put into it over the year, listing 22 areas of often unsung activity, from ‘accounts’ to ‘website’, in addition to the named club officers. This, no doubt together with the bowling success, had greatly enhanced the club’s reputation, attracting players from other clubs. He also announced that the club had raised £612 for his President’s Charity, Cove Macmillan at Treliske Hospital, which was pretty good going.
Then came the award of trophies and certificates for the winners and runners-up of the club competitions – Ladies, Men, Mixed and Open. You can find the full list here, including names only announced on the night.
The Member of the Year, decided by members’ votes, was awarded to Kevin Jones.

The evening concluded with part two of the quiz, identifying the films associated with the 20 snippets of music played, and the arrival of the pantechnicons to haul the trophies to the homes of the Tinkers and the Tapleys. At least it concluded for your humble scribe. There were rumours of a continuation at the Con Club…
