Bowls, like life, has its downs and ups...
On Monday, the B team drew 47-47 against Bude B, but won only one rink, for a 2-3 points total. (Boo!)
On Tuesday, the A Team played their Croydon Marks knock-out match against Kensey Vale and were 15 shots down with three ends to play. Summoning up what we should now perhaps call the spirit of Arthur Fery, they fought back. 4s on the last end for each of Craig Joseph and Richard Jones gave Harry Tinker a chance. With the last wood of the match, Harry drew right onto the jack for shot and a 46-44 victory. (Hurray!)
On Wednesday, the top team were up against Kensey Vale again, at neutral ground Dunheved. In the 4-wood singles, George Tinker was staring down the barrel at 12-19 down, whilst Peter Woodley and David Morrison were evenly balanced against the Kensey Vale pair. George then went on a scoring spree, not giving his opponent another shot, for a 21-19 win. Did Peter and David take encouragement from that? Whatever the reason, they too surged to a comfortable victory. The final result was 4-1 to Wadebridge, only the fours losing their match. Kensey Vale, it is fair to say, were far from gruntled. (Double hurray!!)
On Thursday, the A Team was at it again, in a league match against Camelford, and so was Harry – another last bowl for shot and a 51-50 win, 4-1 in points. (Wowzers!)
On Friday, the Men’s Senior four (David Grant, Peter Woodley, Kevin Jones and Richard Jones) played in the county finals on a challenging green at Truro BC against Stenalees. Wadebridge went 6-15 down, but clawed back to 12-15. They held 4 on the 17th end, but were robbed by a huge wick. Needing five on the last end, they just missed and sadly ended up 15-17. (Boo!)
Also Friday, Mark Tapley played in his first match of the Secretary Cup singles and won 21-14. That’s a great return to bowling by Mark, after several months out of action. (Hooray!)
